How to take samples

Here are some notes when taking water samples for testing. Failure to do so will result in inaccurate test results.

Apparatus for water sampling: Get a clean plastic or glass bottle. Plastic or glass stopper (not lined paper will affect the test water quality)

Location of test water sampling: Take the water directly from the water source you want to test

Sampling water for physical and chemical assay:Rinse the bottle several times with source water. Fill the bottle with water. Cover tightly.

Water sampling for microbiological, BOD, and nitrits testing: Select bottles and glass stoppers, and sterilize both bottles and stoppers before sampling. Disinfect the inside and outside of the nozzle and sampler hands with alcohol. Fill the bottle with water. Cover tightly.

Sample capacity: Depending on the testing criteria, the amount of sample to be taken is calculated.

+ Chemical and physical test of 13 criteria: 1 liter of sample water.

+ Microbiological test: 0.5 liter of sample kept refrigerated (not more than 24 hours).

+ Bottled drinking water test: 4 liters of sample water for physical and chemical tests and 2 liters of cold water for microbiological testing, stored in finished bottles. They all filled the bottle and covered it
